Indian Collections

The India Collection owned by the British Council is housed in the India International Centre Library which is being used by the scholars from all over the country. The collection consists of over 3000 rare books, maps and documents on British India. The Books cover a wide range of subjects including British Books on Indian history, archeology, art and architecture, geography, natural sciences, medicine and medical history. One collection is particularly rich in personal accounts and memoirs. Translations from original Persian works relating to Mughal history are also a part of the' collection. Most of the books were published between 17th century and 20th century.

The earliest publication in the collection is a valuable edition of Philip Baldaeus "True and Exact description of the most Celebrated East India Coasts of Malabar and Coromandel' printed in 1672. Also included in this collection is Col. Tod's "Annals of Rajasthan" published in 1829. The collection has books by Mildred Archer, B.H. Baden Powell, A.L. Basham, J. Bradshaw, Percy Brown, R. Forbes and M. Wheeler among others. There is also a valuable collection of Journals, newspapers, dictionaries and lexicons on Indian languages and dialects.

Bilgrami Collection

A special section of reference and rare books on Indian studies donated by Sayeed Bilgrami called Bilgrami Collection. It has about 700 books on history, travels, biography, literature, philosophy, religion, customs and folklore.

Himalayan Club Collection

The Himalayan Collection housed in India International Centre Library has 550 books which consist of old and new books on mountaineering, sports, travels and adventures, atlases, maps and on Himalayan subjects. Famous books authored by William Douglas, L.J. Mackintosh, Fred l\1arkham, Fanny Parks, Giusappe Tucci and F.E. Younghusband are part of the collection.
