IIC Library
The IIC Library is once again open to members after extensive renovations and the introduction of several new facilities. The IIC Library now has a properly designed air conditioning system whose air handling unit enables uniform temperatures throughout the library, particularly for the India Collection and the Himalayan Collection rooms. In addition, an independent air conditioning system has been provided for the auditorium foyer to block noise filtration into the reading room.
With the replacement of the false ceiling and the addition of sophisticated lights, the quality of illumination has improved dramatically. The partition in the cubicles has been removed, creating an audio-video room. Along with this, the redesigned stacks now match the teakwood panels on both sides of the shelf. The existing stacks have been replaced by compactors for storing the books of the India and Himalayan Collections in one room. Moving the stacks and opening up the space for reading tables and the internet kiosks has given a spacious, bright look to the front.
The Reading Room too has been improved with new upholstery and a light carpet. Other features are a new arrival corner carved out of the Librarian’s room and the conversion of the erstwhile Himalayan collection into a Technical and Server Room. Finally, a toilet facility for physically challenged persons has been created just outside the Library entrance.
Special Facilities
The IIC Library proudly announces JSTOR, an on-line system for archiving academic journals, which includes broad subjects, i.e. Arts and Science, Ecology, Language and Literature, Music and Economics. Web-Opac facility and on-line cataloguing is provided to members for browsing the bibliographic database of the IIC Library.
